All Gone!

You might remember me posting a rub recipe for chicken. Tonight we used the last of the rub for our steak. I guess I have to make more rub. I think I will share it with my mom this time. I’ve been thinking of making it for Christmas presents for people. I won’t go thinking too far ahead though. I’ll start thinking of that again in September.

Since I know people are reading this blog and some are even commenting (THANK YOU), I was wondering if you know of any good sites that help you learn about good cuts of beef. Nate and I are so confused in the steak department! I think we need to make friends with the butcher at Safeway. I’m always at a loss for good meat cuts that aren’t ridiculously expensive but still taste good. Any suggestions?

Here is the recipe for the rub

All Purpose Spice Rub

source Everyday Food

Makes 1 1/4 cups (enough to season 5 to 10 pounds of meat, poultry, or seafood)

  • 1/3 cup coarse salt
  • 1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons dried thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (optional)

  1. In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients, using your hands to break up the sugar. Store in an airtight container, away from heat and light, up to 6 months.
Corn on the Cob
This is how my mom cooks it and it always turns out wonderful.
Fill up a large pot with water. Add 1 TB sugar to water and then bring the water to a boil.
Add corn when water is boiling. Boil for 8 minutes. Serve corn as desired.
